TOY SOLDIER ART
PRINTS
Prints, and I use the term to include uniform prints, paintings of battles,
pencil or ink sketches, postcards, paper soldiers, advertising cartons, etc.,
etc. --- are not only wonderful references, they are beautiful backdrops or
important and cherished pieces of many collections. These prints can be specific
to the type or period which you collect, or they may be totally unrelated. I
should say "seemingly unrelated" --- I have seen toy soldier cavalry with lances
displayed in front of a print of a modern battle tank. At first glance both are
interesting as individual items, then one sees the historical link: the evolution
of mobile, shock warfare.
A favorite uniform print hangs on a wall;next to it on a small shelf a toy soldier
or military miniature is displayed, painted exactly as the print;they mirror each
other while the viewer takes in their differences:
one of lead and tin, one of paper --- a
three-dimensional tangible complements the two-dimensional history.
It is these type of arrangements, this TOY SOLDIER ART which make me appreciate
this business of adults collecting "toys"...
MY APOLOGIES! Listing in progress, please visit again soon to view items.
I will be carrying many limited offer items --- meaning that there may only
be a few, or only 1, of the items on my list (these will not necessarilly be
"one-of-a-kind" or "limited edition", it will usually refer to the
condition that I will only have a few). These will be identified.
I am working on some "steady" sources and will post when I feel I can deliver
with confidence. Thanks for your patience --- in the meantime, look around for
those magazine covers, trashed history books or children's encyclopedias
(they're the ones with the color pictures!) and even your own sketches or
watercolors ---mount or frame them, they all enhance the TOY SOLDIER ART.
FUTURE text & listing to come!
I hope you find something of interest on my listing, (which will be
expanding rapidly) and please feel free to make inquiries about any
prints, etc. you wish to collect as I am in the process of obtaining
materials from various sources.
Happy collecting and keep in touch,
Gary P. Phillips
